NORIKO TOMITA
Fiber Artist

I have continually been fixated on familiar materials such as everyday items and discarded objects in my practice. I believe that everyday items clearly reflect the aesthetic sense and ways of thinking of a country. My works appear to be made from special materials, but can be seen as "forms of everyday items liberated from recognition". From my interest in everyday items and fibers as a starting point, I use trial and error while observing their materials and structure to create my works.

I consistently focus on the relationship between materials and methods, but I do not only involve textile itself, but evoke textile expression in a broad sense. My encounters with materials in daily life have led me to pursue "the definition of textile creation" outside its usual boundaries of common textile production such as weaving and knitting.
