First of all, textiles, especially woven fabrics, are always made up of warp and weft threads; this is an absolute requirement. In the process of creating textiles, the threads move freely, but once they are "fixed", they become merely part of the pattern. I have always thought it would be interesting if the threads could move on their own and change the pattern.
Furthermore, in textiles, threads can also be perceived as two-dimensional lines. When I was looking at the hands of a wall clock, I thought that these were also 'lines', and came up with two ideas based on the theme of "textile woven with time".

First, I took 24 identical wall clocks and removed their dials, leaving only the long and short hands. Next, I regarded each long and short hands as the warp and weft threads, and set each clock to tick at different times. Then, when they overlap at a certain time, a 'textile' is created. The other work similarly retains only the long and short hands of 36 clocks, but in this work, they are all set to the current time, ticking away in sync. The 'pattern' changes with the time, and at 11:35, my favorite pattern appears. This means that "the pattern is alive". This pattern can be seen twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. 

At the same time, I realized that textiles and clocks have something in common: sound. When weaving textiles, the reed goes up and down one step at a time on the loom, making a regular sound, just like the sound of a clock. Textiles are an accumulation of time, and can be said to be a visualization of time.

「永遠の布 "パターンは生きている"」- Open Solitude Summer 2025 -

まず第一にテキスタイル、特に織物は必ず経糸と緯糸から成り立ち、これは絶対条件であるが、糸についていえば、制作する過程では自由に動くものが、一旦"固定"されるとパターンの一部に過ぎなくなる。私はずっと糸自ら自由にパターンを変化させることができないかと考えていた。
またテキスタイルにおいて、糸は二次元の線であるともいえる。ある時、壁掛け時計の針を眺めていて、これもまた日常の中の'線'ではないかと思い、「時が織りなすテキスタイル」をテーマに、2つの作品を制作することにした。

まず1つ目は、同じ種類の壁掛け時計を24個用意し、文字盤を取り外して長針と短針だけの状態にする。次に長針と短針を経糸と緯糸に見立て、各々が異なる時間を刻むよう動かす。そうしてある特定の時間にそれらが重なり合った時、テキスタイルがうまれる。常に動いている'経糸と緯糸'はその時が来るとパターンを描き、'布'となる。（'created pattern'参照）

2つ目の作品は、1つ目とは別種類の36個の壁掛け時計を同じく長針と短針だけ残して、今度はすべてを現在時刻に設定し、まったく同じ動きで時を刻むようにする。シンクロすることで見られる'パターン'は刻々と変化し、やがて11:35になると私の好きなパターンが現れる。それはつまりこのパターンが生きているということであり、私は1日に2回、朝と夜にこの美しいパターンを見ることができる。

同時に、織物と時計の共通点に気づいた。音である。布を織る時に織機の筬は一段ずつ上下し、時計同様に規則的な音をたてる。織物は時間の集積であり時間を視覚化しているともいえる。
